Beautiful hair

I'm not sure how many of you have seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
In our house, we love Harrison Ford. Also in our house, we enjoy the Legos video games. So of course that includes Indiana Jones and keeps him current. Anyway, in the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull a new character is introduced. His name is Mutt and he is very cool. The perfect 1950 rebel hero.

My Boaz decided one night after his bath that he wanted Mutt hair. He sat up by the mirror and created the look all by himself.

His brother needed to get in on the action.

The next day getting ready for school. I'm thinking of getting out my gel, so it will last today. He is happy. What a boy.

Valentine's Day at school

Kindergarten is 2 1/2 hours a day. With time at such a premium, Valentine's Day boxes were assigned out as homework for the moms to do. I was fairly confident I could make a good Valentine's Day box. I mean, really.

So Boaz and I went shopping. I like the pre-made valentines. We found the last box of Star Wars and a box of Spiderman. (Josh needed some too.) Then we started looking at stickers. I hadn't thought beyond hearts and pinks and purples. But Boaz is a boy. He's not into pink and purple. He was looking at Transformer stickers and Spiderman stickers. I started looking for Star Wars stickers. I didn't find any that I liked. And I did not want to put Transformer stickers on a Valentine box.

After I took Boaz to school, I went to Walmart. I was told about a nice scrapbooking store in a different town, but I didn't want to drive for stickers. Walmart was woefully under-supplied in stickers. I did find Spiderman stickers again. There was one packet of Star Wars stickers -- the character's had oddly large -- and creepy -- heads. So I headed to the book aisle. I found a cute level one book and bought it.

I cut out pictures and used packing tape to keep them one. My own version of stickers. A day later, I still have residual guilt about cutting out pictures of a book. A book that would last at least a child hood in exchange for a day in kindergarten that will most likely not be remembered at all.

Sometimes I make those kind of spiritual decisions too.

A Sudden Urge

This morning I walked Josh to the bus, as usual. He forgot his recorder, so I ran back to get it. I don't know if it was the run in the morning, I am not in great shape, or if it was a break in the rain, but I got a sudden urge.

I have two lovely bunches of daffodils. Our land lady says they are temple bulbs. They bloom early and brilliant. They have been fighting the congestion of weeds and noxious old growth and wet, dead leaves. I wandered by and looked to see what I could see that was growing besides the valient daffodils. And suddenly I found myself with dirty hands and hair in my face and balancing on my feet trying not to tip over into the wet grass and mud. I pulled away old iris leaves and uncovered tulips just pushing out of the mud. I pulled away determined dandilions and found small wisps of crocus. I pulled out spreading grass, and spreading grass, and spreading grass. I tried to only pull out the spreading grass, but sometimes I noticed a leaf of something I might want to save in my grubby handful.

Since this is my first year in the house, I have no idea what is waiting to grow and delight me later this year. I think that is what has been holding me back, that and the overwhelming spreading grass. However, today I got a good start on the mess, and now it is much less mess like. I have piles of pulled plants waiting to be picked up. But today, I think I will pull out my quilt and applique sun's rays for a bit this morning.

Deb came to visit

My sister, Deb, came back with her quilt all completed except for the binding. She did an amazing job. She is getting to where she doesn't need me anymore. That makes me a bit sad, but happy too. I walked her through the binding, but she did all the work herself. It's beautiful.

Her coming spurred me on to get going on my quilt. I have two of the three sections put together. (The sections are not equal.) Now I am appliquing the sun -- starting with the rays. Someday I will get there too. :)

I love it when she comes to visit.

He can't wait until it's his turn

Boaz loves to be part of the action.

He might have had more fun than Josh.

the boys

Excited for the start of the Pinewood Derby. Good friends. :)

This was my view. Three friends sitting near the finish line, hoping their respective cars do well.

A fun night.

The car

Weighing in. Just right.

Notice the blood splattered body on the windshield. Not my favorite part of the car, but he loved it.
