Quilt for Crayton

He is over two months old now. But I got it done and it is on its way.

I like the blues and golds together.

This was the fabric I fell in love with. I used it for the back as well.

All bundled up ready to mail.

Crisis

Friday morning during the track meet weekend, I sent Craig a text. Basically I said, work hard, see you this evening. Love you.

He called me right after the text and asked me where I was. I was right where he left me. I was at Sandy and Alan’s house. He asked me what happened yesterday. Seriously? We had just spent the day at the track meet. Then he asked the same two questions again. And a third time.

I told him if he was teasing me I was going to kill him.

He said, no, just walk me through yesterday.

I was freaking out!

I texted his boss, Jim Bob, who went over to the house and had called his brother-in-law, Rick Sessions. Two golfing buddies. They gave him a priesthood blessing. Jim Bob said it was a beautiful blessing and he felt good about it. Then they took him to the hospital.

Our hospital ships a lot of patients to other hospitals. So I waited to see if they would ship him off.

Jim Bob asked me if we had LifeFlight insurance. I said no, and he texted me a number and the info that we could be covered the same day. So I bought a policy. We are now covered. We should have been anyway, living out here so far from anything.

He told me they were going to be admitting him. So now I knew I needed to come home.

During this time I had called Craig’s brother, Brad. He was at work but he helped me through some decision making. I called my sister, Brenda. The ED doctor called me. Jim Bob called several times. I called my sister Deb. I seemed to latch on to the phone like a life line. Brad was the lucky one who I cried on.

I decided to not tell Boaz so he could compete. I called Josh and Thea. I told them I would tell Boaz after he was done.

Just when I found out that Craig would stay home, his brother, Mark called. Brad had called him and told him what was going on. He offered several options. One of which was to take me home. So I accepted that offer and asked if he would drive me to the track meet so I could talk to Boaz. I told Boaz his dad was sick so I was going home, but his Uncle Brad would be at the meet and let us know how he did.

Mark and Brad saved me that day. I am so grateful to both of them. I have no idea what I would have done with out them.

Jim Bob saved me that day as well. He video called me so I could see Craig. Craig was still confused, but he was smiling. That kept me going until I could get to him.

Dr Crane, the ED doc, saved me. She gave me a preliminary diagnosis that wasn’t terrifying that turned out to be what they went with.

Before I headed home, I knew it wasn’t a stroke. The first call with  Craig at 8:30 I told him to walk to a mirror and smile. He said his lips both went up in the smile. I told him to stick out his tongue. He said it looked normal. I didn’t think to FaceTime him. But it helped me not fall completely apart as I was two and a half hours away.

Mark kept me sane on the drive home. At the hospital I was the designated visitor and they wouldn’t let Mark in to see his brother. He took it in stride and turned around and drove two and a half hours back so he could watch his grandson’s first soccer game.

Jim Bob had stayed with Craig for hours while I was doing all the stuff needed to get to him. I am so grateful for him. He has been a true blessing in our lives.

Craig was still a bit confused but he was coming out of it.

He was diagnosed with transients global amnesia and hypertensive crisis. His blood pressure was staggeringly high. Over 200/about 130.

His meds have been changed around a bit. His thyroid was out of wack and that had been adjusted. He is now in a statin. So no grapefruit.

He stayed over night.

Our friend, Kyla was his nurse. She kept us sane. We are so grateful to her. As we were getting ready to check out Saturday, she joked that she was going to write in her chart he was abducted by aliens. We have decided to go with it. It gives the terrifying story a bit of levity.

We have been greatly blessed.

Probably the first good sleep in two days. We are so happy to have him home.

District Track Meet

Districts was in Idaho Falls this year. Craig and I attended the first day. The wind was crazy hard. It made the poke vault horrible.

I think ha has vaulted his last time. He cleared 9’. He almost cleared 9’5”.

He qualified for the finals in the 400.

It was a busy day. The plan was Craig would head home to work Friday, and then come back for the 4x4 late in the day.

Friday Boaz had three events.

The 400 final. He ran and is happy to be finished with that.

The 4x2 relay. They came in second. They will be headed to state.

The 4x4 relay. They took first and will headed to state in that event as well.

So Boaz will attend State his senior year.

The 4x4 relay team.

With his medal.

Mission Calls

Tuesday, May 10, I was working in Challis. About an hour from home. We rotate weeks at work.

His friend group, called The Boys, worked to get ready for their missions. There are six of them. They decided they would turn in their papers together and hope to be able to read them together. So they supported each other and keep each other on track. They spoke with the bishop and stake president and told them they wanted to turn their papers in together with the hope they could read them all together.

Anyway,

I got a text from Boaz.

Boaz was the first to get his call. I showed the doctor and his son. They understood the significance. I was distracted all day and on my phone more than I should have been at work.

They got there calls together. They scheduled the church at 7:30 and started to spread the word. The
Mothers started talking and we brought stuff for root beer floats and a few other munchies.

Coming home I found out that Nate had to wait an hour and a half to get his call, after the others came.  Boaz said they all decided to pray and ask that the call would come so they could all read together.

It came and I am convinced it was because the boys had the faith to work towards the goal. President Nelson said we should expect miracles.

They all lined up together. They set up the zoom. Other mothers live steamed on Facebook.

I was amazed the all the people that came to support. A lot of the kids from school came. From cross country, the play, track, and probably golf.

They read the first part of the letter in unison.

The love and joy at achieving an impossible goal.

The mothers of the Boys. There are twins in the group, so five mothers

Crazy happy family picture.

I was trying to figure out how to post a video from my phone on this ap.

But Boaz is going to the Philippines, Urdaneta. He leaves September 9. He is going to be learning Tagalog.

One of the mothers has all the info, so thanks to Stacie

So now we have a goal to work towards. We are so excited.

I heard Boaz muttering to himself at breakfast in Tagalog. He is practicing phrases.  We are going to be learning a whole bunch about a new country.

Ashton and Yellowstone

We met up with Sandy and Alan and Brad and Kris for a fun weekend. Brad and Kris have a cabin in Ashton and we went to play.

Beautiful area.

The ear muffs look funny, but my ears were warm.

Sweet people.

Sandy and Alan

Lovely waterfall

Brad was the photographer.

We were on bikes. My first experience on an e-bike. I loved it. Help going uphill.

My ride for the day.

Aren’t we all active and healthy.

Sandy and Alan.

In front of the closed bridge

I wanted this picture. Kris laughed at us and said we were inappropriate with our PDA.

They taught me how to play blackjack.

We were super close to Yellowstone. We decided to drive over for the day.

The buffalo were calving. Cute little cinnamon babies.

They are not even scars of the cars and people. Buffalo own Yellowstone.

We feel very blessed to live in this beautiful corner of the world.

18!

He is 18!

How did that happen. There was a track meet on his birthday, so we celebrated him the day before. We barbecued steak, had mashed potatoes, corn and I made him a delicious pie.

I am unusually proud of my pies.

Then Craig and I went away on a weekend with some of his siblings.

That will be my next post.

He has his passport ready. His papers were in SLC. It’s hard to think of anything while waiting for the letter from SLC.

But he now an adult. Watching adulthood come
barreling his way.
