Quilt for Crayton

He is over two months old now. But I got it done and it is on its way.

I like the blues and golds together.

This was the fabric I fell in love with. I used it for the back as well.

All bundled up ready to mail.

Quilt for Graham

I missed the baby shower. Working full time just makes driving 6 hours away on a weekend too much. Plus the whole Boaz is a senior thing. But better late and in the mail than never.

Teal and gray.

Fun back.

Wrapped up and ready to mail. I’ll have to get to that on Monday. (Or Tuesday, Monday I have a hair cut.)

Last quilt of 2020

I finished it before Christmas, but I waited to send it after the Christmas madness. Little Elowynn was already here. In fact she was about two months old already. But I for it done.

I think they kinda look like kitty faces.

The back.

Older sister is liking the quilt. Grandma says older sister might have claimed it. I’m just glad it will be loved.

Baby quilts continued

I have made five quilts this summer and have one more to go.

This quilt is for little Eli. His mother was more than seven months when she lost him. He was her first baby. When I heard the news I dreamed of this pattern. I had just seen the dragonflies the week prior.

Dragonflies on the back.

Bundled, ready to send. We are adding angels on the other side. It will be quite the group when it is my turn. Not that that is close at all. But I remember when I didn’t know anybody there from my limited perspective. Now I do.

This is for little Mya.

Bears on the back.

Bundled for sending.

Now I’m thinking about a red one.

Baby quilts

I have two more completed quilts. The babies are both here.

Baby Josie Jane was born July 2nd.

I love the greens.

This is Birdie Lou’s quilt. She was born July 10th.

I love the butterflies

I almost chose a lighter thread, but I’m glad I went with the dark.

Bundled, ready for delivery.

Trying to fix a mess

I thought I had laid out the blocks carefully. In our new home, I don’t have a sewing room. To see I take over the dining room table. I set up to begin, and I tear down at the end. I have been doing Th is pattern for a few years now. I have been setting out half the quilt to keep it contained. When I sewed the two halves together I noticed the huge mistake. I did not follow the pattern.

I couldn’t continue. This will be a gift. I couldn’t gift it with such a huge error.

So now I have this.

What a mess. I have to sew so much more carefully now. The pattern is broken, and now I will be patching.

A lesson to be more careful and less casual.

Baby quilt

New babies are coming to our family. That means new quilts. I have one done before the baby has arrived. Miraculous.

All wrapped up and ready to gift.

The quilting.

The back and the front.

I have been loving this pattern. The squares are big enough to show the fabric and small enough to make it interesting. I’ve been able to use up fabric that I have on hand. And I think it’s fun.

Three down. Just found out about two more to go

These three babies have already arrived. I was late, but the oldest one isn’t three months yet. So not terribly late. I do like the tradition I have of great nieces and great nephews getting quilts.

This weekend Willa called me Grandma Auntie Wendy. I like that. 😀

So here is Ryker’s quilt.

This next one is for Teddy.

All in blues.

This is Chloe’s quilt.

The triangle picture. The back on this one is pink and peach pastel tropical birds.

Pinks and peaches.

I don’t know the sexes of the anticipated arrivals. So I can’t get started on those just yet. But it is always fun to make a quilt for a tiny angel.

Baby quilts

I have two new baby quilts completed. I had to get a new app for my phone. So they stacked up a bit.

This quilt is for baby Ledger. I met him back in the summer.

His grandfather is a fisherman. And his last name is the name of a fish.

You can see the fish on the back.

Second quilt  this one is for Miss Ava.

I finally got to use the half square triangles that Thea sent. Or at least I got to use some of them. They are very Hawaiian.

The back is marbles pink. So happy to use fabric that was passed to me while I was in California.

Surprise

This is a bit miraculous. This baby is due in December, and on November 2, I have completed the quilt. That has never happened. I’m not sure when in December she is due, but I am least a month early. I should sing hallelujah and dance through my house rejoicing.

I thought this was the last baby for a while until I heard last week that another one is on his/her way. I love to see them come. And I love to see them grow. Babies are awesome.

True use of a quilt

I love it when I get these pictures.

Quilt for Harrison

I thought I would be up to date for maybe a week, but Reggie came early. I completed this quilt last week, but finally got it mailed off today. Sometimes I tell myself if they are under a year I'm still okay. I really should be better about getting them done on time. Oh well.

Aa quilt for Tyler Ann

She is already here, and she is beautiful. Honestly, there is something about babies that pulls at my heart and makes me happy.

This quilt took a little longer than I thought it would. I ran out of thread for the quilting and had to place an order. I might need to order thread for the next one on deck too.  The Internet has been very helpful when I've needed to find supplies.

If I remember right, her mom loves sunflowers.

Josh's Eagle Quilt

Today the fabric pen came in the mail, and so I got to work and finished the quilt. I have taken pictures of the quilting process, and so I am going to show them.

I started quilting the background back in the middle of February.

BloggerImage

I have spent the whole of last year practising on baby quilts to do free motion quilting on this monster. Quilting this big of a quilt is a big difference though, and I learned a lot. I still made puckers and the bobbin thread is tight in some of the curves. I will have to still work on that.

I started the actual eagle the end of March.

BloggerImage

I decided how to quilt the feathers by starting with the tail.

BloggerImage

Staying with the white thread, I then quilted the head. I had to switch to yellow for the beak and the eye.

Next I quilted the feet with orange thread, and the talons with black.

Then I dove in on the wings.

BloggerImage

I had to use a few different patterns for the different feathers, but I managed.

Then the body was one big piece of fabric. I pondered, but really had to sit down and figure it out as I went.

BloggerImage

The second wing was the same process. I had to just start and see what I came up with. The last to be quilted was the black stop border. Next time I do this, I will make sure the quilt top is tighter when I pin it. There was too much extra fabric. Taking a bit more time, I could have lessened my problems with the fabric tucks if I had been more carful with the pin basting.

BloggerImage

Here it is in the middle of binding. It took about two days to hand sew the binding down on the back.

BloggerImage

The label. The new pen is fabulous. The ink glides over the texture of the fabric and gives a good line.

This is the fabulous pen.

BloggerImage

And here it is on Josh's bed. I have ordered a black bed skirt. Still waiting on that to come, but soon his bed will be complete.

A sneak peak at the next project.
