Shop Hop

I had the funnest day on Friday. I went to most of the quilt shops in Central Oregon, all in one day. Well, I went to the one here in Madras the day before. There are a total of 8 shops that participated. We drove over 200 miles. There were 4 of us in the car. I had created a schedule. I looked up the estimated drive times from mapquest. I was mocked all day, but we were close to arriving home on schedule, and Craig took off for Spokane for a business trip. Anyway, I went a bit crazy. Yesterday I mapped out a quilt that would use all 8 star patterns we got, one from each shop. And I already have two blocks completed. Yea!

I've started a part time job. I'm a substitute teacher, K-12. I've been in kindergarden, and all I can say is bless those teachers. I think I'm better with the older kids, but I haven't made it to those schools yet. Tomorrow is my third day. It's a half day. I can only work 60 days total in a school year, because I don't have my teaching license. Well, I have a 60 day restricted license. So far it has been exhausting. So I really look forward to those relaxing sew days.

The car

This is the better picture of the car. It was a cool car, with hot racing stripes. The tail pipes were long, but they added to the effect.

Thea and the Young Women

After the cubscouts and their 5 oz cars, the big boys, and girls, got to play. Julie, in the middle, made a car and entered it under the Young Women. So Thea got to be part of the team. The best part, was they did really good. They beat the missionaries car and a few others. Pink is powerful. You go girls.

Cubscout and car

Josh's car did very well. He took second place. Once he saw the track and the other cars, he really got into it. It was a close race to get where he did. (We had a talk about being a good sport -- he would have preferred being in first place.) I think next year, he will really be excited about working on his car. Craig is just happy that he won at least one race. The second race, the two cars were well matched. It took 4 heats to decide a winner. But the challenger car was dropped and had to be repaired. A fun time, non the less.

Pinewood Derby

The cars, the fans, the track. It could only be pinewood derby time. Gentlemen, start your engines . . .

Grandpa's boy

Boaz doesn't normally take naps anymore, but he fell asleep on Grandpa. Grandpa enjoyed it, but Boaz is a bit heavy. I took this picture before we moved him and let the blood start circulating in Grandpa's arm again. When you are tired enough, I guess any position can be comfortable.

Josh working on his pinewood derby car

Craig is playing with the new belt sander. Josh is outside with the sticks, mud, shovels, etc. Isn't this how it is supposed to go?

Field trip to the High Desert Musuem

I went with the 3rd grade class on their field trip. I had 2 boys and 2 girls. I think I lost one of the boys seven times. He didn't want his picture taken, but all in all it was a very fun trip. The high light was the birds of prey exhibit. There were 2 bald eagles, a golden eagle, the great horned owl, a spotted owl that was sitting on eggs, and a hawk ( I can't remember which kind). They were anxious to get to the birds, and then were satisfied after a few minutes. Basically that was the whole trip. The otter was in his den, sucking on the tip of his tail. The porcupine was hiding in his den. The fox was asleep. They did see the bob cat and the lynx. And there were 2 white sturgeons. Of course the various lizards and scorpions were cool too.

April snow

We woke up this morning to snow. After we took Josh to the bus, Boaz and Princess and took a walk and I brought a camera. My daffodils and hyacynth are a bit confused. Princess loved bounding in the snow. Boaz loved walking the snow. He told me that snow got in his eye. He had fun until he got cold.

Confrence Weekend

I haven't had any new pictures for a while, so I haven't posted anything. But I do love Conference weekend. Josh recognized some of the music and said it was pretty. Boaz said that was a long one, about a talk. And I loved all of the talks and sustaining the leaders. Craig came home from Priesthood, and I wish Pres. Monson would have moved his ears for me too. I loved that story. I loved the story of Pres. Uchdorf thinking that the name was familiar and then his utter panic and he understood his new call. Somebody said the apostles were ordinary men with an extraordinary responsiblity. I guess we are all ordinary people with extraordinary expectations. If we take this just one step at a time and keep going we can do what we know we must. I loved Elder Bednar's talk about prayer. So today I ask myself what can I do that will further my Father's purpose?
